Diabetes and Women
13 de diciembre de 2024
Diabetes affects both men and women. But women with diabetes have a higher risk of heart disease, vision loss, kidney disease and depression.
But there is good news: With early action, you can prevent or delay Type 2 diabetes. These actions include losing a small amount of weight, making healthy eating choices and being more active.
You should also get your doctor to check your glucose level. If it’s not normal, your doctor may then want to see if your A1C level is high. This is a blood test done by a “finger stick.” It tells you what your average blood sugar level was over the past two to three months. Knowing this helps to screen for and manage diabetes. Your doctor can do both tests during your annual check-up — which Healthy Blue covers.
If you develop or have diabetes, there are ways to control it. Changing your diet and being more active will help. In fact, Healthy Blue offers a care management program to help members learn about diabetes and how they can keep it in check. There are also diabetes supplies and medicines that treat it. Healthy Blue covers certain diabetic supplies and medications under the pharmacy benefit. We also cover some oral diabetes medications at a 90-day supply.
Talk to your doctor — and let’s work together to make a plan to keep diabetes away!
